on watching the new season of Big Brother? We usually watch the first couple episodes before deciding. We didn't watch even one entire show of the winter one last year, but we rather enjoyed the summer group. So much of it depends on whether TPTB do a "twist" where half the hamsters already know each other - IMHO that wrecks the entire idea behind the show's premise. We've got the tivo set, but not on a season pass yet.

Sorry I've been MIA for the past month or so. It's been a heck of a school year, and the past two weeks I've been defending myself to the superintendent and school board for teaching Song of Solomon (Morrison) in an AP English class - a book the board approved three years ago, but obviously without any knowledge of the material. We are now at 19 days off for Christmas vacation. Yesterday was supposed to be our first day back, but because of ice on the roads, they called school (a smart decision based on the condition of the back road we live on). However, yesterday was completely sunny (albeit cold - only 20 degrees), last night was clear and today was sunny in the morning. Happy New Year! We have a bottle of Asti in the fridge and will dine on homemade shrimp taquitos & Mexican rice tonight. After watching Dick Clark in Times Square and seeing the ball drop, we'll toast, manage to keep our eyes open for an hour or so, and head to bed. Are we the exciting family or what? LOL Actually, it's been snowing all day, so I'm quite happy we won't be traveling anywhere.

Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland

We're snowed in again! We had no school Friday because of a winter storm, and today the church programs were canceled (I play piano for them). Our road is pretty well drifted shut since it's 1) a dirt road, 2) doesn't get plowed much and 3) there are 40 MPH winds to accompany the 5-6 inches of NEW snow we got after the 12 inches we got Friday! We're up over 50 inches for the season already, and it's supposed to get even worse this afternoon because of lake effect snow....

Christmas cards- old fashioned?

I had this discussion at work today. We were talking about how expensive it is to mail Christmas cards now (in Canada, it is $0.52 per stamp and $0.95 to send to the US). The "younger" ones in the office (about 25ish) were saying they don't send any cards- they e-mail e-cards. Those of us that were "older", send 30-50 cards every year. So... sending Christmas cards in the mail - is that old fashioned? Or is it because we are older and therefore have started to...

I've had an account on YUKU since we moved the boards here. One of my other online groups has recently moved to Yuku as well since MSN is closing their groups. Just swinging by the pub after a trip to the beach. The Big Lake (Michigan) is as warm as it's been all summer, and the tourists are out in force! DS and I stayed a couple hours, then bagged it. We'll go back tomorrow when tourists go home to get kidlets ready for school. Hot, sunny, and a fresh pot of iced tea brewing - what a way to end the summer!
