We had no school Friday because of a winter storm, and today the church programs were canceled (I play piano for them). Our road is pretty well drifted shut since it's 1) a dirt road, 2) doesn't get plowed much and 3) there are 40 MPH winds to accompany the 5-6 inches of NEW snow we got after the 12 inches we got Friday! We're up over 50 inches for the season already, and it's supposed to get even worse this afternoon because of lake effect snow. However, we don't have to go anywhere (ok - we did drive to church for the rehearsals at 7:15 AM just to find things canceled) and I'm prepared to take a lovely Sunday afternoon nap before I do any laundry or paperwork! We are definitely having a WHITE CHRISTMAS!

We've got snow up to the deck's railings! I am so glad we haven't had to do any driving in this crap!

It is currently raining (yea!). Do I sound Grinchy? Yup. After slogging through snow & ice for the last 3 days, I am happy not to have to worry about driving to mom's for Christmas dinner. I had some award winning balancing acts on Tuesday (almost fell twice but managed to stay upright). So rain I can deal with. But that could mean that we are going to get some really icky weather for the rest of winter. Dani

What saps we can be that just because Bing Crosby popularized a wonderful Christmas song we now buy into the notion that we must have a "white Christmas" BAH, HUMBUG!!! Ask someone whose loved ones got stuck in an airport on the way to Grandma's house and never arrived for the holiday. Better yet, ask someone who was stranded for 36 hours in a dreadful airport because the lovely snowflakes had made flying impossible. For a really good answer, ask a stranded traveller with 3 or 4 tired, hungry and miserable little kids. Or ask the tragically grieving family whose son or daughter and entire family skidded on the "beautiful" snow-covered highway into some picture-postcard lovely trees, suddenly not so lovely with mangled body parts and blood mixed into the scene. Dreaming of a white Christmas? Sounds more like a nightmare to me. Actually, here in northern Missouri, we are enjoying the only kind of white Christmas that I can tolerate. We had snow a few days ago, so by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the travellers all have well-cleared and safe roads to drive on, the airports are all open, and people are arriving safely for Christmas dinner, yet the snow remains on the ground, giving a wintry appearance to the scene and the kids can get a chance to try out their new Christmas sleds. (Do kids still get sleds, or do they just ask for a snowboard video game?) Anyway, white or not, humbuggery aside--MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.

We have GREAT sledding hills, and even my mom and I go out. I truly do like to have a white Christmas, but we're lucky that all our family only lives an hour away, and all of us agree when the weather is bad to stay put! We didn't get Thanksgiving this year w/my folks because of weather, but we're supposed to get 2 inches of RAIN tomorrow. That should make things a real mess - what with 6 feet of snow on the ground! We're due to hit 50 for one day, and the next day temps will go back to the 20s. I'm guessing we'll have ice skating rinks for roads. At that point, the snow machine kicks in again, and we'll be grateful to have it to make the roads less slick.

In Vegas that kind of thing never happens Lol not this year. It was absolutely beautiful. Snow in Vegas, go figure,,,,Happy holidays guys.
